Biology Research: Water Flea
A popular series on Niconico involves using a long-term fixed-point camera to conduct a live streaming of tendencies in animals. One video in this series is a live broadcast of mating behavior in water fleas. For many years in Japan, water fleas have reproduced only through the parthenogenesis of females, and thus are on the verge of extinction. In a long-term program designed to test whether or not males and females will mate, we have twice created an opportunity for romance between water fleas. However, both attempts ended in failure. At Chokaigi, we will make the third attempt. In this event, participants will try to use pipettes to capture female water fleas swimming in a beaker within the time limit. Photographs of the captured female water fleas will be compared and the cutest female will be chosen through a viewer for pairing with a male. BACK
Animal: Slow Loris
Videos of animals continue to maintain a high level of popularity on Niconico. The slow loris, an animal which is currently attracting much attention due to the cuteness of its “victory pose,” will make an appearance at Chokaigi. BACK
